Grammy-winning artist John Mayer is known for delivering explosive interviews, but the sexually and racially charged (and scotch-fueled) statements he makes in a profile in the March issue of Playboy sent shock waves across the Internet today.
They were prompted by questions about his past collaborations inside the rap community.
“What is being black?” Mayer pondered. “It’s making the most of your life, not taking a single moment for granted. Taking something that’s seen as a struggle and making it for you, or you’ll die inside. Not to say that my struggle is like the collective struggle of black America. But maybe my struggle is similar to one black dude’s.”
In response to the public’s uproar, late this afternoon Mayer took to Twitter to apologize for using a racial slur in his recent interview with Playboy magazine.
"I think it's time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews.I just wanted to play the guitar for people. Everything else just sort of popped up and I improvised, and kept doubling down on it ..."
The 32-year-old said that he and Aniston, 41, had deep feelings for each other, but were in different places in their lives: “Have you ever loved somebody, loved her completely, but had to end the relationship for life reasons?”
Mayer performs Friday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
